TEAM & EQUIPMENT
We have committed instructors that want students to feel the pleasure of surfing, while enjoying the beauty of São Miguel’s Island. Our knowledge of the island also offers you information on interesting places to visit and spots to surf in the Azores. Surfboards, sup boards, boogie boards, duck feet and goggles are available for rental.
We also have winter suits (nov-apr): 4/3 mm and summer suits (may-oct): 3/2 mm, as well as shorties and licras.
INSURANCE & CERTIFICATION
Our school is affiliated to the Portuguese Surfing Federation and also certified by the Regional Directorate of Tourism of the Azores.
We guarantee teacher liability insurance and personal accident insurance to students, with no additional cost. All instructors are certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation, with a level one degree (1) and two degree (2).
LOCATION & SCHEDULE
Based in island of São Miguel, in the archipelago of the Azores, Santa Bárbara’s Surf School is located on the middle of the island, in Rabo de Peixe village and is opened every day. The travel time to the northern and southern beaches is 7-10 minutes by car.
Since September 1, 2023, we have been working on pre-registration for classes and equipment rental.
Sérgio aparício
Hello! My name is Sérgio Marcos Aparício, I am the founder and technical director of Santa Bárbara Surf School Azores. I am certified as a surf instructor by the Portuguese Surfing Federation since 1998. I’m from Peniche, where I started surfing 25 years ago. In Peniche I founded "Bay School", where I worked several years as a surf instructor. Later, I took a degree in sports in Leiria’s University. In 2001 I moved to the Azores, working as a teacher of Physical Education in different schools of the archipelago. I have been working in the formation of young athletes in various clubs on the island of S. Miguel in all levels, from begginers to competitors, defending titles at regional, national and world level.

Hello! I am Ilona, I work at "Santa Barbara Surf School Azores" as a manager. My job is to organize the groups in levels of education, distribution of the material for the classes, to answer to the needs of the surfers, photo / video ...
I am from St. Petersburg, but I have always had a passion for the sea and the Azores are undoubtedly an ideal place for nature lovers.
I love to walk on the beach and breathe the sea air, feel the warm water in the summer and, of course, surf with my funboard.
